How to get around Myspace if it is blocked, using a proxy
Ah Myspace. One of the greatest things on the web? Or that site you “only go on to listen to music”! Either way, we all end up on there, all day, every day. Until it gets blocked at school/college/work.

Why do organisations block Myspace? And how can a proxy help?
Of course organisations want you to do work (be it school or college work, or “real” work!). So they put a myspace filter, a myspace.com ban, restrict myspace – whatever you want to call it – its the same thing – you can’t get on myspace because its been blocked.
So what can you do about it? Well thats where our little friend called the web proxy comes in.
Ignore my lack of drawing skills, but this is how (at a school/college) your would probably access Myspace (Although you may not realise the computers it goes through! From home it will go through less, probably):

(data (ie the myspace profiles, images etc) are sent both ways between your computer (through the school server, through their internet service provider) and myspace.com’s servers)
But on the school server there is somethign running that looks to see if it gets any data from myspace.com. And when it does, it ignore whatever emo song has been sent, and replaces it with a message that (probably doesn’t) look like this:

It probably would infact be something more along the lines of “Banned. Reason: Filth.”. They’re probably referring to all the emoness on myspace
So anyway. how do proxies help? Well rather than go “straight” from your computer to myspace.com (lets ignore your school/isp for now), it goes through another site – a proxy. a bit like this:

Does that make sense? It had better! Rather than getting your computer, via your school server via your ISP to ask for myspace.com, it asks for your proxy. Your proxy then retrives myspace.com, but as far as the school server is concered it only is retrieving whatever is on your proxy. Unless the proxy is banned (can happen! Those evil bastards at banning HQ like to spoil our fun) your school server won’t know its for myspace!
To use a proxy you just go to a proxy address. You can find loads on this site. You just enter the URL you want to visit.
But be careful when using proxy sites to visit myspace
Remember if you enter your login details on a proxy there is nothing (apart from laws etc, but if your a hacker, would you listen to laws?) stopping them from storing your passwords, email addresses, sites you visit etc. They may claim to “add security” etc, but most don’t. Most aren’t even on SSL (that padlock thing). SO BE CAREFUL!
Comprende?
